Mackin's Early Reader Program For Public Libraries

My Road to Reading, exclusively from Mackin, is more than a collection of decodable books. It is a complete, step-by-step early reading system designed to help children build skills with confidence while giving families the tools they need to support learning at home.
The program is organized into ten clearly labeled bins that follow a thoughtful progression of foundational reading skills, making it easy for children to move forward at their own pace. Each bin includes a simple, family-friendly guide that explains the focus skill, what to do before, during, and after reading, and how to support a child through learning to read; no teaching background required.
To extend support beyond the books, each bin includes a QR code that connects to a dedicated online hub on this website where families and caregivers can access short, easy-to-follow videos that model how to use the books and support reading at home. These how-to videos break down each step in a clear, approachable way, helping families feel confident from the very beginning. Additional supports like progress-tracking bookmarks encourage motivation and help children and families see growth over time.
Grounded in research on how children learn to read, My Road to Reading builds the foundational skills needed for reading success before kindergarten and strengthens the skills children are developing in school. By combining engaging decodable texts with clear guidance, visual supports, and on-demand coaching through video, this program creates a seamless connection between library, home, and school.
